During the Great Recession of 2008 the “resume black hole” trope of employers not getting back to candidates rose to near-mythical status.
Fast forward to 2025 and responding quickly to job seekers is considered a pillar of a quality candidate experience, but most employers still don’t do it.
In 2018 Indeed and LinkedIn added transparency for job seekers by showing “responsive employer” badges for companies that respond quickly. In 2023 they upped the ante by also showing average applicant response times (mostly using data from an ATS like JobScore):

Unsurprisingly, job seekers liked this, and jobs posted by responsive employers performed better. At JobScore we’re committed to helping you get-and-keep responsive employer status on job boards.
In practice this means moving 70+% of applicants out of the “new” workflow stage within 30 days. JobScore now shows your status as red/yellow/green badge in the primary navigation bar:
If you are about to lose your responsive employer status, or have already lost it, JobScore makes it easy to click into lists of applicants that need to be dispositioned. You can sort them by score, and bulk-disposition them with a few clicks:
Being responsive is good for you and good for candidates. We’re proud to be the first ATS to highlight this critical metric and make it easy to manage.
Happy Hiring!
