Be a crucial part of the Automatic product design team by making our iPhone and Android apps, website, blog, and more beautiful and delightful to use. We take pride in creating thoughtful and meticulously-designed products that solve real problems in people’s lives, and the designer in this position will be instrumental in this.
You’ll focus on creating polished user interfaces for the iPhone and Android apps and contribute to product features from concept to completion. You’ll work closely with our tight-knit team of product manager, engineers, and user researcher throughout the entire product development process. This is a unique opportunity to work in a small, well-rounded team of designers and engineers dedicated to creating great user experiences in a giant industry ripe for disruption.
What you’ll be up to:
- Creating and managing UI comps for every screen of the iPhone/Android apps and website.
- Developing and honing a unique “Automatic” visual style that is consistent and beautiful.
- Creating and organizing assets for the iPhone and Android apps and website.
- Collaborating with our Head of Product/UX on interaction design for the apps and website.
- Participating in user testing with our user researcher and incorporate feedback into designs.
- Seeking the input from our engineers about implementation constraints during the design process and iterating as needed.
- Creating design prototypes or annotated comps to communicate your designs to non-designers and get their feedback.
- Coordinating with front-end engineers to make sure designs are implemented as intended.
Requirements:
- Strong user interface design skills, a clean visual design sense, and a pixel-perfect attention to detail.
- Expert knowledge of design and prototyping tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Omnigraffle, etc.
- You’ve designed mobile software for iPhone that shipped.
- Exceptional communication skills; the ability to clearly explain design decisions and process to anyone in the company
- You’ve worked with engineers to make sure the design is implemented as intended.
- A portfolio showcasing your visual and interaction design work. Please include it with your application.
Nice to haves:
- Coding skills: HTML, CSS, Javascript, iOS, etc.
- Experience designing for print, packaging, and merchandise.
