Founded in 1968 to meet the post-secondary and continuing education needs of Cecil County residents, Cecil College has been serving the community and shaping its future for more than 50 years. The College is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the governor. The College’s fifth president, Dr. Mary Way Bolt, reports directly to the Board of Trustees.

Cecil College is centrally located in Maryland’s most northeastern county, just one half mile from Interstate 95. It is easily accessible from Philadelphia and Baltimore, as well as from Wilmington, Delaware.

With a diverse student population, Cecil College enrolls approximately 2,500 credit students and 3,400 non-credit students. Cecil offers associate degrees, certificate programs and non-credit classes. Cecil offers a variety of associate degree and certificate programs.

General Description:

Adjunct faculty at Cecil College are a contract employee who are hired to teach specific discipline courses each academic year. Adjunct faculty do not have a college service requirement. Please see the duties of part-time faculty for additional information. If an adjunct faculty member is the only discipline expert in a particular field, the adjunct faculty member may serve as the advocate and resource for their discipline at Cecil College.

Due to the need of interaction with students, employees and the college community this position requires in person presence.

Details:

1. Adjunct Faculty may teach no more than 26 credit hours per fiscal year.

3. Adjunct faculty will receive a master adjunct contract, as well as course specific contract. Each course specific contract shall list: 1) the Adjunct Faculty members name, employee number, address and phone number; and 2) the course number, course title, number of credit hours, start date, end date, account code and the payment amount.

Specific Duties:

1. Teach a part-time load of no more than 26 credit hours or 1508 hours per academic year.

2. Conduct assigned classes in accordance with the approved master course syllabus and stipulations of the department, following the duties of part-time faculty process, including but not limited to administering a final exam or culminating activity, meeting all assigned class times and submitting attendance and grades as per college processes.

3. Utilize the current College course management system. (See Learning Management System Policy)

4. Establish, post and hold office/conference hours for students, a minimum of 30 minutes per class distributed before or after class. Advising modality should match teaching modality.

5. Assist students through informal academic advising appropriate to the department or division, contacting department chair if any clarification is needed.

6. Adhere to copyright laws provided on the Library site for the college web portal.

7. Regularly and routinely check Cecil College email accounts and respond in a timely manner to emails, including those from the department chair, administrative staff and students. Cecil College email must be used for all email communications with students and any college business.

8. Participate in the first and second Academic Monitoring. Faculty are strongly encouraged to participate in the third phase. Access can be found through the Academic Program page of the college web portal.

9. Submit any Incomplete Grade Contracts to the Administrative Assistants in Academic Programs.

10. Participate with the Faculty Member’s department chair, when requested, with department or discipline reports. Send materials to department chair or program coordinator to assist with the compilation of program or departmental reviews. For example, data for program learning outcomes, program or course assessment information or course revisions.

11. Submit other materials and forms necessary for the College’s purpose or for the College’s compliance with outside regulations and/or regulatory bodies.

12. Support curriculum development in discipline and across college by suggesting any revisions to the department chair and utilizing appropriate textbooks or additional course materials.

13. Attend all scheduled and special faculty meetings and meetings of other groups to which assigned (e.g. division, committees, affinity groups, etc.).

14. Support College-wide testing and actively encourage students to participate.

15. Complete required professional development, including Safe Colleges.

16. Support the mission, vision, and values of the College and the policies of the Board of Trustees.

17. Act in accordance with the letter and spirit of applicable laws, College policies, rules, and expectations, and the terms of the contract for the current academic year.

18. Adhere to additional duties as set forth in a faculty member’s contract and/or required by virtue of the faculty member’s position at the College.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in nursing with an unencumbered nursing license in the state of Maryland. Master’s degree preferred. A minimum of 2 years of full time clinical nursing experience in the content area.

Qualifications:

  • Prior college-level teaching experience in the related field preferred. Only completed applications (resume, letter of application and unofficial transcripts) will receive consideration.   • Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and problem-solving, skills.
  • Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology (e.g., word processing, e-mail, database) or proven ability to learn these skills.
  • Able to work with students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Able to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.
