Job Description

About yerdle

Yerdle is a peer-to-peer community that helps people give and get goods for free. Our mission is to reduce the need and desire to buy brand new things. Yerdle is making reuse simple, delightful, and social.

There are 5 trillion dollars worth of durable goods sitting idle in American homes and garages, yet it's easier to buy a new blender online than it is to get a perfectly good one secondhand. Yerdle is building a store where the items are free and you only pay shipping. Powered by our virtual currency, yerdle has grown dramatically in the last 6 months.

Based in SF, we recently raised $5M from angel investors that include Venky Harinarayan (Amazon), Mark Pincus (Zynga), and Andy Rappaport (August Capital). We're looking for engineers who are passionate about our vision and have the talent and skills to drive monumental change. You can read more about what we're doing at http://www.yerdle.com and in Business Insider, Forbes, and Fast Company.

If this resonates with you, we would love to hear from you.

Javascript Front-End Engineer

Yerdle is looking for a front-end-focused engineering generalist. You come from a classical CS background and can hold your own in a conversation about server architecture, but you've found your sweet spot at the top of the web development stack. You will shape how yerdle's web front-end works, from the MVC architecture and API integration to the UI subtleties that make for a great user experience. You've had experience building and optimizing complex Javascript code, you have a clear point of view about how to do it and a desire to surprise and delight the user.

We are polyglots, and most of our software is in Ruby, Objective-C, and JavaScript. We love to pair and we often let tests drive our development. We code small. We have a close-knit team and teach each other a lot. We work in-person in a cool office in downtown San Francisco. This is a top-shelf engineering team that's building a great product in a fast-paced environment. You will be most successful here if you:

Requirements:

  • Have a BSCS or other engineering or technical degree
  • Minimum 2+ years of professional javascript development experience
  • Built and shipped consumer web/mobile UI/Applications that are cool and interesting (show us!)
  • Developed applications for millions of consumers
  • Have good UX instincts
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Are humble, diligent, and funny

Bonus Points:

  • Worked at a two-sided marketplace company
  • Done early-stage consumer startup before
  • Made open source contributions that we can peruse
  • Have unstoppable design skills
  • Are a rock climber or surfer (we do both).

Perks:

And yes, we offer free food, awesome coffee, great location, stock options, benefits,
cool-fun-nice peeps, social events, are dog friendly and more.....
