Calling all pop culture junkies! Are you obsessed with all great Portuguese language video games, TV shows, and movies? Are you fluent in both Brazilian Portuguese and English? Do you also enjoy working directly with communities of fans? If the answer to all of these questions is yes, then we need to talk.
Like our communities, Wikia is passionate, high-energy, and collaborative. Wikia is one of the largest Creative Commons-licensed sites in the world, as we maintain over 300,000 wikis across an impressive array of subjects, spanning all aspects of entertainment, gaming, and lifestyle. We are rated as a Quantcast Top 50, ComScore Top 100, and Nielsen Top 10 Social Media Site and are read by over 70 million unique visitors a month.
You will be a part of a fantastic community team focused on working with various Portuguese speaking Wikia communities. The role will center on building communities and sparking engagement within the Portuguese-speaking Wikia user base, translating English-language community created articles into Portuguese (while presenting it in the voice of each community), and serving as our internal cultural ambassador for all things Brazilian. Preference will be given to speakers of Brazilian Portuguese.
You will also spend a significant amount of time supporting our Community Support team by answering Portuguese language support tickets that we receive from our users, and helping our Portuguese speaking community members find the answers they need by building and maintaining our online Portuguese community and help pages. Taking on the two roles of Community Development and Community Support won’t be a challenge because you will become a genuine member of both of those groups, and you will have a deep understanding of how to represent your peers.
Our ideal candidate must be fluent in both Brazilian Portuguese and English, comfortable in the world of European Portuguese (language and culture), Brazilian pop culture, gaming, and excited about finding new fans both in English and in Portuguese. You thrive in a collaborative environment and love the idea of working for a dotcom. Major bonus points for experience in wiki text editing, social networking outreach, SEO, or online marketing. You have a college degree and have a working knowledge of social media platforms and an online presence. You have the ability or the desire to talk tech and a working knowledge of HTML. Please note that this is a junior role (1 - 4 years of professional experience).
Unlike most startups, our exciting platform is also coupled with a strong work life balance. You’ll have the opportunity to shape the revenue stream of the company, technology, and products, while having fun. For your expertise, we will offer a competitive base pay and full benefits. Our dog-friendly digs are located in San Francisco (between BART and CalTrain) and also come with a stocked pantry and gaming room, where some employees practice yoga at lunch.
