Through our Head Start and Early Head Start programs, we work with children (ages 2 – 5) and their families to provide the skills, confidence and stable home life necessary for a smooth transition into kindergarten and beyond.  Head Start positions are generally Monday through Friday, 7:45 am to 4:15 pm (10-1/2 months per year).


The Health Coordinator has functional responsibility for planning, implementing, and evaluating the health services program for establishing methods of meeting health needs of children, rendering required nursing services, and providing health education within the program.  This position is more administrative than clinical and will travel between South Bay and North Hollywood.

The Health Coordinator will:

  • Provide a comprehensive health services program that includes medical, dental, mental health and nutrition services to pre-school children to assist each child's physical, emotional, cognitive and social competence
  • Promote preventive health services and early intervention
  • Provide each child's family with necessary health skills and insights
  • Attempt to link families to ongoing healthcare systems for continued health care, even after leaving the program
  • Understand and administer state and federal laws and regulations governing Head Start - State Preschool Health Services


  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Nurse Science, or Public Health Administration or closely related field
  • Current and valid California license as a Registered Nurse or Public Health Nurse
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in community health, occupational health, school nursing or related areas
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in nursing administration or supervision
  • Excellent computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Fingerprint clearances required prior to employment
  • Valid California driver's license and access to automobile with adequate insurance (or have easy access to other means of reliable transportation) to make home visits and travel to other school sites

Health Requirements:

  • Proof of TB clearance within 6 months prior to employment
  • Physical examination at the time of employment
  • Requires ability to interact with children in a busy environment including, but not limited to:
    • Able to lift up to 50 lbs
    • Frequently kneel and squat
    • Ability to move quickly

Additional Requirements:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and oral) desirable
  • Knowledge of principles, techniques, methods and procedures of current nursing practices, particularly related to pediatric nursing
  • Knowledge of methods of health promotion, disease prevention, and control of communicable diseases
