Sr. Embedded Software Engineer

Through a combination of a unique application of digital signal processing and sophisticated powertrain controls, Tula Technology, Inc. has created the digital engine, thereby providing the most cost-effective, easily integrated fuel-reduction technology available. Without sacrificing drivability or  requiring major changes to vehicle structures, fuels, service maintenance intervals or batteries, this breakthrough technology provides a 15-20 percent CAFE fuel efficiency benefit, with up to a 50 percent increase in fuel efficiency at lower speed steady state operating conditions. This results in:

  • Improved fuel economy labels on vehicles
  • Improved real world fuel economy
  • Consumer payback typically within one to two years
  • One ton of CO2 saved annually per vehicle

Position Description:

The Embedded Software Engineer will work on the end-to-end design and development of embedded software for Tula’s advanced engine control products.  You will join an enthusiastic team of developers to deliver high-quality, robust software implementing DSP and Controls algorithms for Tula’s next-generation engine efficiency technology.  

  • Develop software to implement Tula engine control algorithms
  • Collaborate with other engineers on functionality, coding, and prototyping/testing
  • Develop code in a structured manner with top-down architectural specification, with testing requirement considered
  • Migrate development from MATLAB/Simulink models to functional code for target embedded CPU
  • Use best practices for software development, including functional specs, code reviews, revision control and unit testing


  • BS in CS or EE required, MS preferred, with at least 7 years of industry experience
  • Experience with MATLAB and Simulink/Stateflow
  • Experience developing software for MCUs (Power PC, Tricore, etc.)
  • Experience in developing software for real-time applications (such as control or communications), understanding of real-time processing issues, and experience with commercial RTOS such as VxWorks
  • Full software lifecycle experience from concept to shipping product and resolution of field issues
  • Expert level C/C++ and Assembly programming experience, strong coding skills with emphasis on well-structured coding and test methodology
  • Great communication skills (both oral and written) and a positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Ability to work in a dynamic start-up environment where initiative is a must

Bonus Points:

  • Development experience to MISRA standards
  • Experience in automotive engine control algorithm development, implementation and calibration
  • Working knowledge of CAN and OBD-II protocols
