Job Description

PARC, a Xerox company, is in the Business of Breakthroughs®. Practicing open innovation, we provide custom R&D services, technology, expertise, best practices, and intellectual property to Fortune 500 and Global 1000 companies, startups, and government agencies and partners. We create new business options, accelerate time to market, augment internal capabilities, and reduce risk for our clients.

Since its inception, PARC has pioneered many technology platforms – from the Ethernet and laser printing to the GUI and ubiquitous computing – and has enabled the creation of many industries. Incorporated as an independent, wholly owned subsidiary of Xerox in 2002, PARC today continues the research that enables breakthroughs for our clients' businesses.

As one of the most prolific innovation centers in the world, PARC offers an exceptional internship experience. Considered valuable members of our community, interns are fully integrated into the daily activities of PARC's highly collaborative, multidisciplinary culture.

The Theory and Technology for Agile Organizations (TAO) group at PARC is looking for a user interface/user experience designer or engineer for a 3-month internship. Recent graduates or current MDes/MS/MFA students are encouraged to apply, exceptional senior year BA/BFA students will also be considered.

The intern will work closely with researchers to enhance existing interfaces for a web application that performs sentiment and topic detection in social media. The software is being extended to perform textual analytics beyond sentiment analysis. This internship should provide an opportunity to conduct visual design and interaction design explorations and the chance to try out new techniques in online applications development.

The ideal candidate should have strong visual design, interaction design and prototyping skills and be familiar with the practices and techniques of user-centered design. The candidate needs to have demonstrated the ability to collaborate across disciplines, ideally incorporating ethnographic design research and working with technical developers.
