The Intelligent Systems Lab at the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) is developing data analytics solutions for government and commercial clients to transform large datasets into knowledge and decisions. Recent projects include  developing anomaly detection technologies to identify malicious insider threat in government organization, finding fraud, waste, and abuse from medical insurance claims, and developing  information systems to help subject matters experts to efficiently perform data analytics tasks in a number of applications. We are seeking  a qualified, interested and available Senior Software Architect. The software architect will work with researchers, business leaders, customers, and external collaborators and is expected to take on challenges in leading the development of data analytics solutions. 

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop enterprise data analytics solutions. Design and promote reusable software components.
  • Review project directions during architectural phases of the project. Advise management on technical challenges, risks, cost/benefit, and solutions.
  • Create design documents that may include interfacing with external customers, business groups, and researchers.
  • Collaborate with researchers and engineers to set technical directions. Provide technical leadership and architectural oversight on complex solutions.
  • Create and enforce technical standards. Perform design and code review services and provide consulting services to the development team. Collaborate with other development teams to enhance the development process through the implementation of best practices and technical standards. This may include but is not limited to development and design guidelines and quality standards and policies. 
  • Contribute to the evaluation and recommendation of new technologies to further improve user experiences, enterprise integration, performance and scalability, and product qualities and development efficiencies.  This position is instrumental in developing innovative products and product features.

Requirements

  • 10-15 years of knowledge, skill and ability to establish highly complex enterprise architecture, design and modifications.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience leading a development team as a software architect.
  • Advanced technical knowledge in software development methodologies, design and implementation is required. Expert analytical and design skills and in-depth experience in research and analysis, project planning and implementation are essential.
  • The ability to implement theoretical concepts into real products and solutions is essential.
  • Incumbents must have an excellent understanding of entire development process that includes specification, documentation and quality assurance and an awareness of business issues as they impact overall project plans. Experience and knowledge of employee benefits, transaction processing, or financial services industry background is preferred.
  • Good communication skills are required to interact with researchers, customers, business leaders, and external collaborators.
  • Familiarity with data analytics algorithms and systems.
