PhD candidate in electrical, aerospace, mechanical, math, applied math, CS
Uncertainty, degradation, and faults are common features of different types of systems including distributed systems; therefore risk management algorithms, diagnosis/prognosis techniques, and fault detection tools are inevitable part of distributed systems’ operations. Distributed control and optimization are also critical in these types of systems. On the other hand, modern infrastructure and the increase in internet of things provide access to useful data. We, at PARC, a Xerox company, are trying to integrate these domains and implement state of the art solutions for real-world problems.
About the Job:
We are seeking a strong and self-motivated candidate with background in distributed systems and experience in the cross section of distributed/stochastic optimization and control, data mining, and machine learning. The real-world applications of interest include and not limited to energy, so experience in energy-related fields (smart grid, smart homes, power systems, efficiency, etc.) is a big plus.
The Intern will be able to participate in the daily activities of PARC's highly collaborative, multidisciplinary culture and have the opportunity to work with leading researchers, engage in different stages of the research or business-development pipeline, and receive authorship on publications and/or patents.
PARC, a Xerox company, is in the Business of Breakthroughs®. Practicing open innovation, we provide custom R&D services, technology, expertise, best practices, and intellectual property to Fortune 500 and Global 1000 companies, startups, and government agencies and partners. We create new business options, accelerate time to market, augment internal capabilities, and reduce risk for our clients.
Since its inception, PARC has pioneered many technology platforms – from the Ethernet and laser printing to the GUI and ubiquitous computing – and has enabled the creation of many industries. Incorporated as an independent, wholly owned subsidiary of Xerox in 2002, PARC today continues the research that enables breakthroughs for our clients' businesses.
PARC is an Equal Opportunity Employer and considers applicants for all positions without regard to race, color, religion or belief, sex, age, national origin, citizenship status, marital status, military/veteran status, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical or mental disability or any other characteristic protected by applicable laws.
