Assistant QA Manager

SUMMARY:  Coordinate and perform quality control tasks to assure the quality of incoming and outgoing products to meet clients’ expectations and satisfaction, with a primary responsibility of operating a GC/MS. Assists department manager in decision making and management of the Lab personnel. Supports Sales and Marketing and incorporates QA information into marketing materials.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Production
  • Verifies material  for production orders
  • Monitors QC during all production processes
  • Ensures quality standards are met

 

  • Sales and Marketing Support
  • Prepares samples and documentation for clients
  • Provides technical support to clients
  • Prepares White Papers for client use
  • Conducts client presentations

 

  • GCMS and FTIR Spectrometer Operation
  • Performs analysis on cork and wine  samples
  • Prepares standards (chemical solutions)
  • Assist in and develops new methods as necessary
  • Programming of GCMS machine

 

  • Laboratory
  • Ensures QC by both supervising and performing checks and analysis and recordkeeping for both incoming and outgoing product
  • Oversees staff pulling samples for analysis
  • Supervises and participates in sensory evaluation of corks and wines
  • Supervises staff in setup and clean up of sensory analysis
  • Performs incoming QC on cork and glass bottles
  • Provides support to Sales staff relating to QA/QC processes
  • Provides support for customer liaison for education and problem solving

 

  • Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • The Assistant QA Manager will participate in the management and supervision of staff; will assist in the supervision and training of lab personnel and will help  ensure that departmental and company standards and goals are met

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. in Chemistry or related field (Science or Enology), AA or basic chemistry coursework with experience also considered
  • Experience in supervision of personnel
  • QC experience in food, beverage or pharmaceutical industries a plus
  • Knowledge of cork or wine industries a plus
  • Working knowledge of GC/MS preferred and/or comparable technologies
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications
  • Demonstrated ability to calculate figures and amounts
  • Working knowledge of statistics, laboratory analysis and laboratory instrumentation
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to understand any and all safety requirements and cautions
  • Ability to perform the necessary physical labor
    • Able to lift 75 lbs.
    • Bend, stoop, squat, push, pull, twist, and lift
    • Stand for long periods of time
