Systems Engineer

Who are you?

 

Livefyre is looking for a Systems Engineer to bring our real-time conversation platform to the next level of amazing.  The Systems Engineer is responsible for all Livefyre development and production environments.  We are working with big data, thousands of customers, exponential traffic growth, and are rapidly on our way to billions of monthly page views. 
 
This is an incredible opportunity for you to join a growing team solving extremely challenging engineering and operational issues. Our infrastructure lives in the cloud (AWS), and we need a team member in this role who brings technical acumen to high-volume web services, constant scale, and automated efficiency. You will join a team of two other engineers, and together be responsible for all Livefyre development and production environments, deployments to production, and operational readiness. A willingness to be on-call is required.

 

 

Key Qualities:

  • Leadership – Work hard and lead by example within a brilliant team that only knows how to work at 150%.
  • Innovation – Bring design, process, and architecture ideas to the table that challenge the status quo while supporting business goals
  • Anticipation vs. Reaction – Think about what lies ahead and plan accordingly
  • Automate the World – Elimination of manual processes is key. If you have done it more than twice, it should be automated.
  • Efficient Process Builder – Bring enough process to the table to maximize efficiency and minimize wasted time/effort

 

Key Skills:

  • Tried and true Unix/Linux master
  • Excellent skill in a scripting language (Perl, Python, etc.)
  • Deep experience with cloud services, ideally Amazon Web Services – EC2, S3, ELB, etc.
  • Database experience desirable (relational, noSQL)
  • Caching and Load Balancing highly desirable (Varnish, HAProxy, etc.)
  • Automation and programmatic approach to scalability
  • Strong familiarity with Git or similar SCM
  • Network, systems, and application troubleshooting (especially under fire)
  • Monitoring, alerting, dashboard, operational tools development skills
  • Understands operational support of development teams
