Visual UI Designer with UX Chops (Unicorn)

Job Summary:

We are building a world-class Design and User Experience team and are looking for someone who embraces a holistic approach to user-centered design. The desired candidate must be a master of visual UI design, understand UX best practices and have some familiarity and/or experience with conducting user research. This mid-level position will help guide the conceptual and strategic design for desktop and mobile applications. Your mastery of blending visual aesthetics with usability best practices will delight our customers through engaging and intuitive user interfaces.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create and transform wireframe concepts into pixel-perfect comps, as well as design small features from scratch
  • Transform high-fidelity comps into clickable prototypes for user and stakeholder feedback
  • Ability to explore and present multiple design options for discussion
  • Root recommendations and decisions in user needs and data as opposed to personal preference
  • Participate in ongoing research of UX best practices
  • Assist with scheduling and conducting user research (e.g., surveys, user interviews, usability testing)
  • Assist with QA testing as needed to ensure that products match the intended designs
  • Collaborate closely with senior designers, product managers, developers and other internal stakeholders


Desired Skills and Experience:

A successful candidate will have the following experience, skills and education:

  • 3+ years of experience in visual UI design, with a deep understanding of usability best practices
  • Bachelors Degree in graphic design, web design, human factors or related field
  • Incredible attention to detail demonstrated through use of typography, layout and core design principles
  • Desire to work in a vibrant, fast-paced, collaborative start-up environment
  • Self-motivated, organized and accountable
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Expert in software for visual design, wireframing and prototyping, such as Adobe Photoshop, Balsamiq Mockups, Axure and InVision
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating your strategic design thinking and research process


Bonus Points:

  • Experience designing mobile websites and applications
  • Experience building clickable prototypes in HTML and CSS
