Strategy/M&A Director



Job Summary

Reporting to the CEO, the Strategy/M&A Director for Hobsons will play a critical role in driving the achievement of the Company’s mission.  Additionally, this role will have an indirect reporting relationship with the parent company’s (dmg::information) VP, Business Development.


The Strategy/M&A Director will be responsible for partnering with the CEO and Executive Team to contribute to the commercial and strategic agenda, improve speed and success of growth bets and deliver value to the business.  Additionally the Director will work with DMGI’s VP Business Development to research, diligence and execute broader sector-wide growth strategies.  The Strategy/M&A Director will play a visible role among companies within the education sector and will be a thought leader internally and externally – building our reputation as a partner and acquirer of successful education businesses.

We are currently hiring a Strategy/M&A Director to work in either our Arlington, VA or Cincinnati, OH office. 


Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Partner for strategy development
  • Actively participate in Company strategic plan processes, including front end customer strategy
  • Competitive intelligence and market research
  • Build and maintain a robust acquisition and partnering pipeline; ensure alignment with overall strategy
  • Develop and manage key external relationships
  • In partnership with Executive Team and DMGI’s VP Business Development develop and drive DMGI’s international education growth strategy
  • Process leader for M&A, divesture, partnering activities, including:
    • Communication and coordination with Company, 3rd parties and bankers
    • Prepare documents for CFO approval prior to submission to 3rd parties and DMGI/DMGT
    • Develop and manage to appropriate deal timeline with all parties involved
    • Responsible for coordination of internal approval documents and documentation of due diligence findings
    • Draft, negotiate LOIs and purchase agreements with CFO and General Council
  • Be organized and forward thinking to ensure a quick response to rapidly evolving business needs


Minimum Qualifications

An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.  An example of an acceptable qualification for this position is:

  • 8-10 years of business development and M&A experience in content-driven businesses
  • Advanced degree required, MBA preferred
  • Experienced at interpreting market trends, customer needs and various delivery models
  • Background in business-to-business media or information services
  • Proven change agent
  • Proven experience working in a highly entrepreneurial environment
  • Experienced working in a matrixed environment
  • Successful track record of managing multiple parallel work streams
  • Comfortable with multi-tasking, resolving competing priorities and meeting project deadlines
  • International work and/or deal experience highly desirable

Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.
