Business Analyst – Student Success Specialist

 

Job Summary

The Business Analyst will work with Product Management, User Interaction Designers, developers, QA, and end users to determine, document and define functional requirements and solutions. This includes writing product requirements, use cases and user stories for web-based application products serving the Higher Education market.

The BA will also serve as a Student Success Specialist, providing expertise on student retention and success solutions, particularly course selection and management, degree auditing academic recovery and student/advisor communication.

 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing consulting and expertise on client and student needs in the Higher Education Student Success industry, including recommending product features and strategies, as well as providing industry updates to the extended team
  • Gather and interpret relevant data and information from expert sources, user feedback and task analysis
  • Prepare functional specification documents, user stories, user interface guides, use cases and user flows to help define solutions for web-based applications
  • Collaborate with the development team to validate that requirements are feasible and are being met
  • Help manage support tickets and product backlog prioritization
  • Serve as a Product Owner for specific Student Success project or feature initiatives, which includes day-to-day responsibility for moving the initiative from ideation to launch, leading collaboratively across teams

 

Other Duties and Responsibility

  • Contribute to the design of test scenarios
  • Manage change requests
  • Assist in enforcement of project deadlines and schedules, following an agile development process
  • Assist in project scoping, cost analysis, and risk mitigation strategies
  • Act as an interface between business units, technology teams and support teams

 

Required Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

Knowledge of: the product development lifecycle, tasks and techniques needed to work as a liaison among internal and external stakeholders, as well as to recommended solutions related to Student Success to meet business and user goals, leveraging agile methodologies.

 

Ability to: work independently demonstrating initiative; exercise good judgment in administration of responsibilities; adapt to and embrace change in a rapidly changing environment; establish work priorities and manage multiple projects; exhibit flexibility in work schedule and job tasks; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, vendors, clients, and other job contacts, including providing key support for the product manager; maintain confidentiality of confidential and sensitive information.

 

Skills in: verbal and written communications, including presentation skills; operation of standard office equipment; operation of personal computer; application of job software including Microsoft Office Suite and Atlassian JIRA. English word usage, spelling, sentence structure and punctuation; planning, scheduling, and organizing work and events.   

 

Minimum Qualifications

An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.  An example of an acceptable qualification for this position is:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant business or technical discipline. An advanced degree is desirable
  • 5 or more years in a business analyst role or related field
  • 2 or more years serving the higher education industry, specializing in student success, retention, academic advising, enrollment management or academic recovery
  • Experience in the successful deployment of web-based products for the student success/retention market
  • Should be familiar with database and software design concepts and related technologies
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication, as well as proven problem-solving, and organizational skills

 

Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.
