Job Description

Senior Rails Developer

Our client is seeking a motivated individual to join its software development team. While this is a Ruby on Rails position, the successful candidate will be well-rounded in various languages.

This is a full time position, outsourced or software development contractors should not apply.

Successful applicants must:

  • Have the grit and desire to finish and maintain projects; not just start them.
  • Be able to work on a team, independently when necessary, to escalate problems when appropriate, and to thrive in a successful small business environment.
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Love coding Ruby.
  • Enjoy coding in Rails.
  • Be comfortable with JavaScript.
  • Be familiar with the basics of version control.
  • Feel like the code isn’t finished if it isn’t tested.
  • Enjoy talking about at least one: %w(beer coffee cars business food videogames)
  • Want to work with awesome people.
  • Want to go on quarterly(ish) company sponsored trips to hang out at technical conferences.
  • Be able to work for eight solid hours per day where at least five overlap with EST.
  • Be self-motivated and want to work for a company that trusts you to get your work done without a lot of watching over your shoulder.
  • Be a US resident.

You would stand out if you:

  • Have attained a four-year degree in something (...anything).
  • Have customer support experience (retail, help desk, consulting, etc.).
  • Have solid Ruby and Rails knowledge. Not the ability to write magically obscure code, but the wisdom to write clear code that looks obvious in retrospect.
  • Are comfortable with advanced git usage: rebase, rebase -i, merge –no-ff.
  • Are able to list a bunch of sources you actively use to keep current with Ruby, Rails, and programming news.
  • Are fluent in SQL.
  • Have fundamental image creation and manipulation skills.
  • echo “Are very comfortable in the Unix command line.” | sed -e 's/very/extremely/'
  • Already do a lot of testing with RSpec.

  • Competitive salary + stock
  • Pick your workstation and OS
  • Retirement plan with 3% company match
  • Health, vision, dental, telecommuting expense reimbursement, etc.
  • Peers that enjoy appropriate use of internet memes e.g. vs.
  • Enjoy your nights and weekends!
