Job Description

SUMMARY

Advance Auto Parts, the largest auto parts retailer in the United States, is looking for a .NET/Windows Developer for their MotoShop Technology Tools team.  The individual will be responsible for the development of the MotoShop Shop Management System which is a hybrid desktop/cloud-based software used by the mechanic shop technician to manage their day-to-day business.  The software is built on the .NET framework.

This position is currently based out of the San Francisco, CA office until the end of the year.  At that point the office will be moving to Newark, CA. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Works under minimal supervision.
  • Develops complex and/or high risk applications.
  • Designs and develops complex and high risk application interfaces.
  • Researches and evaluates business systems of a more complex nature.
  • Assesses the business and organizational implications of key technologies and recommends appropriate action.
  • Guides the development team in overall application technology design activities.
  • Leads the identification and definition of key architectures, components and interfaces, and data model design.
  • Conducts code reviews.
  • Oversees the development of technical design alternatives and their implications.
  • Provides technical assistance by responding to inquiries from others regarding errors, problems, or questions about programs.
  • Balance multiple priorities, multi-tasking as necessary.  Adapt well to changes.
  • Teamwork - Promotes, maintains and encourages a close working relationship and a team effort with all members of the IT Department and user departments involved in the work assignments.
  • Provides support and problem resolution for moderate to complex eCommerce application.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7-10 years programming and systems analysis experience.
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of life cycle through application of complex, mutli disciplinary software applications, involving complicated technology and integration points.
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication skills; communicate to users, technical peers, and vendors.
  • Ability to work as lead software developer with minimal supervision.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science related field preferred.
  • Experience in design, code, and support of critical enterprise-level systems.
  • Experience in supporting large-scale web applications and enterprise service software.
  • Ability to write and maintain technical documentation, especially XML documentation comments within Visual Studio.
  • Ability to assist personnel of other departments as a computer and IT resource.
  • Ability to process data efficiently, and to generate and format reports and create other business intelligence applications (web, windows, or otherwise).
  • Experience in design, code, and support of critical enterprise-level systems.
  • Experience in supporting large-scale web applications and enterprise service software.
  • Experience in supporting large-scale platform specific applications (Windows is required, mobile development is desirable, but secondary to our existing system).

 

  • Required technical skills:
    • .Net 3.5 and higher (mainly 4.0) SQL/Databases, Linux/Unix, MySQL, Visual Studio IDE (2010 and 2012) including development with all of the following: Windows applications, Windows Services (daemons), Web Sites, Web Services, WCF, oData Services, Entity Framework 4.0 and up including Code First.
    • Visual Basic and C# with a strong emphasis on Visual Basic for existing applications / maintenance.
    • Microsoft Office (especially Outlook plus calendar)
    • WPF (or Silverlight) with a strong emphasis on the MVVM pattern.
    • Asp.Net WebForms (support only), Asp.Net MVC (new development)
    • Windows Forms (support and potential development)
    • Inversion of Control, principals and practice
    • Plug-In architecture
    • HTML, JavaScript, CSS (JQuery is a plus)
    • Ability to quickly learn and implement patterns and practices.  e.g. MVVM, MVC, IOC, etc.
    • O.S. & Servers & Protocols: Win7, Win8, Windows Server 2008 R2, AS400, TCP/IP, HTTP, SSL, oData, FTP, sFTP, SSH, Microsoft IIS
    • Strong understanding of delegates and lambda functions, how they relate to and can be used for event driven programming (ability to meaningfully explain concepts such as multi-cast delegates, covariance, and contra-variance will be considered a huge plus).
  • Preferred technical skills:
    • .Net 4.5 + Windows RT
    • Client-side deployable database (such as SqlList, SqlCE)
    • Telerik Reporting, Telerik WPF and/or Silverlight controls
    • Mono and Xamarin
    • Web Security Experience common implementations including Forms and Windows authentication.
    • Experience with real time inventory systems.
    • Experience with and knowledge of retail systems.
    • Experience and knowledge of transactional systems.
    • Experience and knowledge of the automotive aftermarket parts industry.
    • T4 Templating
    • JQuery, AJAX, Knockout.js and other web related technologies.
    • IL assembly and disassembly.
    • Build server and continuous integration usage and setup.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or any related field is preferred

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Any Microsoft Development certificates would be a plus.
