UI / UX Lead Designer at a Rapidly Growing Start-up

The vision of Alpine Data Labs is to make data science so straightforward that it becomes a tool for business users as well as data scientists. Alpine's data-mining software scales to huge datasets (hundreds of terabytes, or billions of rows) but it is driven through an intuitive graphical interface. We deliver on the promise of Hadoop, Spark and big data by providing a collaborative and intuitive visual environment for teams to quickly create and deploy analytics workflows and predictive models.

Who Are We Looking For?

Alpine Data Labs is seeking a Lead User Experience Designer who possesses a passion for great design, a superb aesthetic sense, an exceptional eye for detail, and, above all, a deep appreciation for user experience in software applications.  The ideal candidate will also possess the ability to grasp and distill highly complex matters into clean, understandable solutions.  You will work in an open, collaborative environment and should enjoy problem-solving and stepping outside the routine. 


  • Lead the design of Alpine’s analytics applications by delivering wireframes, UX flows, mockups, interactive prototypes, design specifications, and final assets with personas and use case development.
  • Work with the marketing team on web-site design and also identity design such as logo and print marketing material
  • Work closely with product, marketing and business stakeholders in driving stated goals.  Lead focus groups, AB testing and usability tests


  • The ideal candidate has 7 years overall experience, 2-3 years of experience in user-centered design, and is hands-on from the initial wireframes, to developing prototypes and providing final assets.
  • Relevant coursework in HCI, human factors, product development, etc.
  • Experience with design applications such as Balsamiq, Photoshop, etc.
  • Familiarity with standard UI languages/frameworks including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Experience with analytics applications, data visualization technologies (e.g. D3), and social or gaming applications, is a plus.
