- Work with and manage Software and QA engineers, helping them understand their goals and removing obstacles preventing them from reaching their goals
- Regularly conduct 1:1 meetings to receive feedback and provide mentoring, coaching, and career growth and development opportunities
- Collaborate with the management team to map out and resource projects, and help forecast budget, tools, training and technology needs
- Interface with Human Resources to insure that company policies are consistently applied and practiced.
- Provide support and back-up to Scrum Masters and other engineering managers when needed.
- Mediate and facilitate critical and crucial conversations, including but not limited to performance and conduct issues, and take appropriate action as the situation dictates
- Recruit, interview and hire new members of the engineering team
- Surface issues to the team that they may have overlooked, such as scaling, performance, security and the like
- Provide input on features, functionality, and other aspects of what's being produced that the team may not be considering
- Stay abreast of the latest developments in the technology the engineering team uses, as well as monitor trends in the industry via news and the changing competitive landscape
- Experience with and knowledge of Agile and Lean methodologies and frameworks such as Scrum, Kanban, and the like
- 4+ years experience as an established manager and servant-leader of an Agile software engineering team
- Experience in mentoring and developing teams and talented individuals
- Strong knowledge of software development methodologies and practices
- Degree in Computer Science or related technical field
- Ideally have solid experience with developing highly scalable systems
- Hands-on experience working with and managing distrubuted team members a plus
