Partnerships are at the heart of Tiyatien Health’s approach to delivering health care to Liberia’s last mile villages. By working with nonprofits and corporations, we are able to leverage 21st century equipment, technology, and skill-sets to pioneer more efficient and effective programs. We build deep relationships with family foundations and grassroots communities that provide us with the resources needed to succeed in “impossible to reach” villages where others refuse to go.
To deepen and expand our partnerships with organizations and donors, Tiyatien Health is seeking a paid, full-time Director of Partnerships & Development as the fifth member of our U.S.-based team. The Director of Partnerships & Development will serve both a programmatic and a fundraising role, designing and implementing the strategy and systems needed to successfully identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward institutional partners, foundations, and major donors. S/he must be an organized and results-oriented project manager, a contagiously warm and compelling advocate for our programs, and a self-starter who thrives individually and on teams.
About Tiyatien Health
Africa faces a shortage of 1.5 million health workers. The continent suffers 33% of the world’s maternal and child disease, yet has only 3% of the global health workforce. Nowhere is the crisis worse than in rural areas of Liberia, which was left with just 51 doctors after its 14-year civil war. Today, 60% of the rural population lacks access to essential health services.
Founded by survivors of Liberia’s civil war, Tiyatien Health is a start-up NGO that is redefining how post-conflict nations rebuild rural public health services. Filling the massive health worker shortage in rural post-conflict areas, we recruit and train villagers to serve as frontline health workers, delivering comprehensive home-based medical and social services in villages previously thought unreachable. In Liberia, we aim to create a national network of frontline health workers for reaching women and children in remote villages with vital health services. This national network will become a model for bringing high quality health care – for the first time – to the 1.5 million rural Liberians and 400 million rural Africans who currently lack it.

Tasks & Responsibilities:
Design and implementation of partnerships and fundraising strategy
- Design, implement, and manage a comprehensive proactive strategy focused on expanding and enhancing partnerships and donor relationships. Oversee the identification, cultivation, request and stewardship strategies for partnership and donor prospects -- finding opportunities for alignment with TH's priorities.
- Stay abreast of emerging giving trends in global health and the corporate and foundation sector, with a special emphasis on developing relationships with a social innovation funders, family foundations, and corporate partners.
- Personally manage relationships with TH’s highest-level organizational partners and institutional donors. Cultivate relationships and request gifts from donors, assuming primary responsibility for stewardship, follow-up and retention.
- Monitor and analyze development and communications data to inform and influence development strategy creation and revision.
Proposal development and reporting
- Oversee the development of competitive and compelling requests for partnerships and funding, including the production of letters of inquiry, concept papers, proposals, and grant applications, to foundation and individual funding sources.
- Work closely with the Executive Leadership Team and programs staff in Boston and in the field to develop content for proposals for all levels of donors, including major funders.
- Manage a high-quality stewardship process for active partnership and donor prospects, including a regular schedule of contacts, meetings, and interaction with key TH leadership and staff.
- Manage systems to ensure completion and delivery of reports to partners and funders, working with programs staff to develop content for narrative and financial reports on deadline. Maintain detailed records of proposal submission, stewardship, and reporting activities.
- Set and monitor annual revenue targets for fundraising team; develop regular updates on partnerships and donor revenue for TH’s Executive Team and Board.
- Work with in-country teams to manage in-kind partner and donor offers, and develop strategy and plans to solicit companies for in-kind donations to fulfill supply needs as articulated by procurement and logistics staff.
- Manage a team of two staff; manage the Boston development team budget.
- Preferred 3-5 years fundraising or similar experience with demonstrated success in leading organization-wide fundraising strategy and implementation. Ability to develop strategic, proactive relationships with partners and funders with proven track record.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in global health and fundraising.
- Ability to serve as an effective ambassador for the organization, our programs, and our values in private conversations and public forums.
- Strong project management and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for a diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision.
- Excellent communication and written skills: ability to articulate the organization’s mission, program objectives, and resource necessary to inspire confidence and excitement.
- Superb networking ability.
- Exemplary interpersonal skills: ability to collaborate effective with culturally diverse staff across teams and countries.
- Familiarity with eTapestry and Raiser’s Edge preferred.
- Experience working in global health strongly desired.
- Strong computer skills (MS Office required, with strong preference for Apple iWork, Adobe Creative Suite, and Wordpress).
- Ability to travel domestically and overseas as needed.
