About the Job
The Optoelectronic Materials and Devices Area in EMDL currently has an opening for a post-doctoral scientist in the area of optical sensing systems, with applications in diverse fields such as micro-fluidic systems, point-of-care diagnostics, detection in harsh environments, and structural health monitoring.
Technical areas of current projects include the following:
- Optical detection techniques and technologies
- Fiber optical sensors
- Optical detection systems for structural health monitoring
- Design and development of opto-fluidic instruments
- Optical sensors for physical-bio-chemical properties
- Bio-medical instrumentation
Candidates with experience in these fields, strong hands-on versatile skills, and eagerness to be an integral member of a research team are encouraged to apply
- Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field
- Direct experience in one or more of the technical areas listed above
- Hands-on lab experience
- Strong record of research and innovative problem solving
- Ability to gain permanent resident status

The Electronic Materials & Devices Laboratory (EMDL) is a group of physicists, material scientists, electrical engineers, and chemists with a passion for identifying future hardware needs and a history of innovation in creating new technologies to meet those needs. Our current research is focused primarily on printed electronics, MEMS, displays, amorphous and polycrystalline silicon systems, x-ray imaging, acoustic imaging, optoelectronic semiconductors, visible and UV lasers and LEDs, compact optical sensing systems, and bio-medical instrumentation.
