Systems Administrator
Job Summary
Hobsons is seeking a Systems Administrator. Candidate will be responsible for maintaining a complex infrastructure for the delivery of Hobsons products, with a focus on Linux Administration, but also will be required to support many different technology components within the Hobsons infrastructure.
We are currently seeking a Systems Administrator to work in either our Arlington, VA or Oakland, CA office. Candidate can work from home, but should be available to work part-time in the office.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes
- Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale
- Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required
- Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary
- Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning
Minimum Qualifications
- 4-6 years system administration experience

Experience installing and maintaining the following technology components required:
- Linux Operating System (various versions)
- Linux web & middleware products, such as Apache, Tomcat, Nginx, Jboss, Membase
- Linux Services, such as, Wordpress, Joomla
- Linux scripting tools, such as Bash, Perl, Python, PHP, and Powershell
Experience with the following technology is preferred, but not required:
- Sonicwall firewalls
- F5 Load balancers
- Riverbed WAN optimizers
- HP and Dell network switches
- EMC or Dell Equal Logic SAN Storage
- VirtualIron or VMWare virtualization software
- Monitoring tools, such as IPMonitor, Zenoss, Perfmon
- Database products such as Oracle, MySql or MSSql
- Cloud services such as AWS, Linode and Rightscale
- Windows server and IIS
