The Position
Wikia is looking for smart, quick and highly motivated Dev-Ops/Systems Engineers (Linux/UNIX) to join our growing and profitable company. We are primarily looking for Dev-Ops/Systems Engineers but also value experience as a DBA or Network Engineer.

The list of interesting and challenging problems we have yet to tackle is long. Can you imagine engineering and operating a site that has over 300,000 mysql databases and needs to scale to hundreds of millions of users?

In this role, you will be part of the team scaling Wikia’s industry leading platform usedd by tens of millions of people. You will make an impact on the world and you won't have to wait long to see it happen.  We are globally distributed, fanatical about performance and growing quickly.

Requirements
    •    Strong Linux experience (Debian/Ubuntu preferred)
    •    A passion for automation and efficiency
    •    The desire to get it done and do it right
    •    Experience with MySQL in a high transaction replicated environment
    •    Strong scripting ability in shell, Perl, Python or Ruby

We don’t expect everyone to have all of the following, but the more the better:
    •    PHP experience
    •    Solid networking skills
    •    Experience with high volume web applications
    •    Thorough understanding of web caching at scale
    •    Open source tools experience
    •    varnish, squid, memcache, puppet or chef experience
    •    MediaWiki experience a big plus!
    •    MySQL administration / performance tuning
    •    Experience working at a start-up or other rapid growth environment
    •    Internet, gaming, social media and/or entertainment experience
