Why should I use JobScore to power the careers page on my website?

  • You'll be able to add, remove or update jobs on your website without help with anyone else... so potential applicants will always see the most up-to-date jobs in your JobScore account.
  • JobScore makes it really easy for your site visitors to spread the word about your jobs through email and social networks. We provide reports on the number of times people view, forward and apply for your jobs, so you know what's working.
  • We eliminate the spam coming into your jobs@ email inbox
  • We allow you to make sure the right resumes are e-mailed to the right team members- so great people don't slip through the cracks.

How do I set up JobScore to power the careers page on my website?

JobScore is specifically designed to power the careers page on your company's website. There are four ways to hook up your careers site, but no matter which option you choose, your job application pages will be styled according to your careers site settings, so please make sure to add your logo and choose some appropriate colors on this page.

Here are the four ways you can hook up your careers site, listed from easiest to set up to hardest:

#1 - Point the "Jobs" links on your website directly to JobScore.

Set up: Very Easy. Display Control: Basic

This is the easiest way get up and running with JobScore, especially if your website doesn't have a jobs page yet. When prospective applicants click the "jobs" link on your website they will be sent to a JobScore-hosted page that shows all of your open positions. Essentially, you are replacing your jobs page with JobScore. Here's how to get started:

  1. First, add all of your open jobs to JobScore.
  2. Then, you'll need to change all of the "jobs" links in your website to point to your custom careers site URL (you probably link to your jobs page from your homepage and/or about us page). You can find your careers site URL in the upper left of the admin page in your JobScore account (it's the first link), and you can customize how that page looks here.
  3. After you are done, there should not be any jobs links that point at static content on your site, all links should be pointing at JobScore.

After you've completed step 1 above, please cut and paste the text below into an email, insert the necessary information [in bold below] and send it to your webmaster so they can complete steps 2 and 3 for you:

Now, when people click the "jobs" link on your website, they'll be sent directly to your JobScore careers page - which shows all of the open positions in your account.

#2 Replace the job descriptions on your "careers page" with a "See our Open Jobs" link that points to JobScore.

Set up: Very Easy. Display Control: Moderate

We use this approach ourselves here at JobScore and feel it's the best solution. The idea is that you should have a careers page that's all about what it's like to work for your company (text, videos, pictures)- and potential applicants should see that before they see your job listings. Here's how to get started:

  1. First, add all of your open jobs to JobScore.
  2. Create some great content about what's like to work at your company. (text, pictures, slide shows, video, etc)
  3. Ask your webmaster to remove all of the job descriptions and email links from your existing careers page, and replace them with your new content and a prominent "See our Open Jobs" link that points at your JobScore custom careers site URL. Your careers site URL is shown in the upper left of the admin page in your account, and you can customize how that page looks here.

After you've completed steps 1 & 2, please cut and paste the text below into an email, insert the necessary information [in bold below] and send it to your webmaster so they can complete step 3 for you:

If this email address is shown or there are mailto: links to it anywhere else on our website, please remove them.
  3. FInally please add the attached content to the jobs page in place of the job descriptions and emails [attach new copy, links, pictures, video. mockups]

Now, when people click on the jobs link on your site, they'll be sent to a page with content about what it's like to work at your company. If they like what they see, they can click on the "See our Open Jobs" link on that page and they'll be sent directly to your JobScore careers site where they can view, share and apply for your open jobs..

#3 Show the jobs in your JobScore account in an iframe on your own website:

Set up: Easy Display Control: Moderate

If you want to host your own custom careers page and want to show your open positions in JobScore on the same page, an iframe is a good choice for you. Please click here to see an example of what this looks like. Like what you see? Here's how to get started:

  1. First, add all of your open jobs to JobScore.
  2. Create some great content about what's like to work at your company. (text, pictures, slide shows, video, etc)
  3. Customize how the iframe looks here. Try to make the text color and background color match your website's look and feel. If you are having trouble customizing your careers site, don't hesitate to email us at support@jobscore.com
  4. Get your "Careers Site IFrame" URL from here for your webmaster. (the second one that ends with: /list?iframe=1)

After you've completed steps 1 through 4 please cut and paste the text below into an email message, insert the necessary information [in bold below] and send it to your webmaster so they can hook up your careers site.

As a first step, create an iframe that's at least 650 pixels high and 400pixels long, but we recommend longer. Some sample iframe code:

Now, when people click on the jobs link on your website, they'll see a page that has information about what it's like to work at your company, and as an integrated part of the page they'll also see an up-to-date list of the open jobs in your JobScore account (the iframe). If they want more detail on the job descriptions or want to apply, they'll click on the job titles and visit your JobScore hosted careers site to see the full job descriptions.

#4 - Incorporate careers site RSS feed into your own website:

Set up: More difficult (some web programming required) Display Control: Excellent

If you want to show the entire job descriptions of the jobs in your JobScore account on your website, we publish an RSS feed that your webmaster can use to make this happen. Your RSS feed can be found below your careers site URL, on the Admin page in your account. (it's the third link that ends in /atom)

Incorporating your own RSS feed requires that you do some server-side development to poll and parse the feed and power your pages from the feed contents. This extra work allows you to have your job descriptions precisely match the look and feel of your website. We're sorry but unfortunately we can't do this programming work for you, you'll have to do it yourselves. If you don't have access to a programmer, we recommend you either choose option1, 2, or 3 above or find a contractor to help you out with this task.

To get started, cut and past the text below into an email, insert the necessary information [in bold below] and send it to your webmaster/programmer:

Each <entry\> in the feed is a job to be displayed on our site including the job title (in the <title/> element), job description (in the <content/> element) and an apply-to link (in the custom "t:JobScore.com/apply_url" <link/> element).

Now, when people click on the jobs link on your website, they'll visit a page that you are hosting with information about your employment brand and what it's like to work at your company. On this page they'll also see the job descriptions in your JobScore account (from the RSS feed) styled to match the look and feel of your website. If they see a job description that they like and want to apply, they will click on an apply link and be sent to a JobScore hosted "apply for a job" page that is skinned according to your careers site settings.

Can I change the appearance of my careers site?

You can update the appearance of your careers site on the Edit Careers Site page.

How do I get better results from my careers site?

Great careers pages provide a window into what it's like to work at a company, not just a list of open positions. They are the cornerstone of your company's employment brand.

When job seekers visit a world class careers page they can visualize themselves working at the company... they feel what the office environment is like and get a sense of what the people at your company are all about. They are compelled to apply because they feel like they will "fit in." Here are a few ideas of how to improve your careers site and start building your employment brand:

  • Interview some employees about why they joined the company and why they like working there. You can either put up text quotes, or better yet, videotape and edit the interviews and add them to your site.

  • Interview some of your company's leadership about why they started the company and/or the company's focus and values.

  • Interview some of your customers about why they like working with you and/or love your products

  • Link to press releases or other coverage of your company in the media

  • Start a corporate blog or link to your employee's blogs

  • Add some pictures. Some specific ideas:

    • The street in front of your building

    • The front of the building

    • Your reception area

    • A few different work areas: desks, cubes, offices, conference rooms

    • The lunch / break room or any other cool perks you have in the office

    • The local gym / bar / coffee shop / restaurant where your employees hang out

    • Pictures of people at work

    • Pictures of your team having FUN - corporate retreats, birthday parties, incentive trips,etc.

    • Put the pictures in a series to tell a story like "a day in the life of company x"

    • Display the pictures as a slide show, try using slide for pictures or create a powerpoint and load it into slideshare and incorporate the slideshare presentation on your site.

    • Tag your employees' Flickr photos and incorporate the feed.

    • Link to separate web pages that outline the company's benefits and other specific perks available to all of your employees

If you build a custom careers site, we recommend you integrate with JobScore using option 2, 3, or 4 above so that applicants see your custom careers site before reviewing your jobs and applying. After investing time in building a careers site, many companies choose link to it from all of their job descriptions as well, which you can do by editing all of your jobs in JobScore.

How do I drive more traffic to my careers site?

We’re glad you asked.  JobScore is specifically designed to drive traffic to your careers site, and has built-in tools to help you:

  • Post your jobs on Job Boards
  • Run referral e-mail marketing campaigns
  • Connect your company web page to your JobScore Careers Site
  • We also recommend building a world class careers site with information about your company, and linking to your careers site from your company blog, e-mail signature, or other correspondence.

Can I adjust the CSS on my JobScore Careers Site?

No. You can change the appearance of your JobScore Careers site on your Edit Careers Site page, but you can't edit the CSS directly. To highly customize your careers site -- with custom fonts, colors, spacing, and images -- we recommend building your own careers page outside of JobScore and - using your JobScore careers RSS feed to populate the job data.

Can I send the URL for a specific job to someone?

Absolutely -- All you have to do is copy the URL in the address bar of your JobScore Careers Site page and paste into e-mails. However, if you want to know who is looking at, forwarding and responding to your job, we recommend that you use the Request Referrals feature in JobScore instead of cutting-and-pasting the URL and emailing it.

How do I make sure that all of my applicants are routed through my JobScore careers site?

First, make sure your JobScore careers site is hooked up to your corporate website.

Second, turn off your standard jobs email address (usually jobs@companyname.com or careers@companyname.com) and/or bounce back the following text:

Hi,

Thanks for sending us email, but we just wanted to let you know that we won't be reading it.

If you would like to apply for a job at [your company name here] please review our open jobs at [your careers site URL here]
